Student members are nominated by the faculty advisors of active Alpha Sigma Mu chapters. Membership guidelines for students are specified in the ASMu_Constitution and may be summarized as follows:
- Undergraduate students should have Junior standing or above, and should have a GPA in the upper 25% of eligible students.
- Graduate students should have a GPA in the upper 50% of eligible students, or show exceptional promise as a researcher.
Student nominations are transmitted using our online form.
For 2024-2025, we have been working on upgrading the back-end processes. To be sure that your nominations are received, in addition to filling out the online form, please email Walt Milligan, milligan@mtu.edu and just let him know that he should be expecting nominations from you.
Initiation fees are $50 per member at the time of initiation. There are no fees after initiation.
Paper copies of the nomination forms are no longer produced, and the nominations are automatically entered into the database of members. This function is now password-protected. Faculty advisors and/or their assistants must establish a userid and password to use the online form. Send an e-mail to the Secretary/Treasurer Walt Milligan, milligan@mtu.edu. Include your name, university, and a cell phone number so the password can be sent by text.
Professional members may be nominated by faculty advisors, officers of the Society, or members of the Board of Trustees of the Society. Nominations are made directly to Secretary/Treasurer Milligan, via e-mail, for professional membership. An online nomination form is under development.
